Team Sky wants to sign Steven Kruijswijk

The Team Sky is not yet satisfied with the 5 stars team which they managed to put together. Despite the presence of Chris Froome and other very good riders for stage races like Mikel Landa and Geraint Thomas, the British team wants to get even stronger.

According to Dutch newspaper de Telegraaf, Team Sky have confirmed their interest in signing Steven Kruijswijk for the next two seasons.

The ambitious project with which Sky was starting this season, to win all three Grand Tours, it soon failed. As we all remember, the British squad had Mikel Landa as its leader for the Giro d’Italia, but the Basque climber has withdrawn when the race was not even half-way. The Sky fell back on other objectives, managing to bring home a stage victory and the jersey for the best climber with Mikel Nieve.

The British team will try to win Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana with Chris Froome, but the triplet project Giro – Tour – Vuelta has only been postponed to the next season. But to achieve this, Sky is willing to change some pieces. The main objective of the transfers period is Steven Kruijswijk, the Dutchman who has been close to success in the Giro, losing the pink jersey after a fall in the third last stage when he was three minutes ahead of Chaves.

Kruijswijk’s current contract with LottoNL-Jumbo is set to finish at the end of this season.
