Rohan Dennis wins Eneco Tour time trial

Rohan Dennis of BMC was the fastest on second stage of the 12th Eneco Tour, on a day when the riders powered their time machines in the first of two chronos, the second being a team time trial on Friday. Dennis pulled on the white and red leader’s jersey as well as earning the triumph.

A lot was expected of Tom Dumoulin, who won chronos in three consecutive Grand Tours from the 2015 Vuelta a España to this season’s Tour de France. But the Dutchman came up 20-seconds short of Dennis.

However, another rider from the Netherlands, Jos van Emden of LottoNL-Jumbo, became the second fastest rider at +0:05. World Champion Vasil Kiryienka (Belarus/Sky) somehow missed his start time and threw a bottle in anger. It turned out there might have been a reason for that.

Although Jon Izagirre couldn’t set a time faster than 11:07, his German teammate Jasha Sütterlin roared into third place with 11:02.
