Peter Sagan to join Bora-Argon 18?
The latest rumour doing the rounds is that World Champion Peter Sagan could be on his way to Bora-Argon 18. According to the German website radsport-news.com, the German team are looking to move from UCI Pro Continental level to World Tour level.
The article suggests that Bora-Argon 18’s team manager Ralph Denk could be set to unveil bike manufacturer Specialized as a new sponsor and this could lead to Sagan signing for the team.
Specialized provide bikes to Sagan’s current team Tinkoff and the bike brand are said to be closely involved in any deal involving the Slovakian. According to radsport-news, Specialized are keen to strengthen its position in the German market.
Tinkoff are withdrawing their sponsorship of the team from the end of this year and are working on finding a new title sponsor. The uncertainty over the future of the team has resulted in Sagan being linked with a number of other teams including Trek-Segafredo, Etixx-Quick Step and Astana.
However, under UCI rules a team cannot officially ‘recruit’ or conclude a contract outside the official contract window that lasts from August 1 to December 31. So whilst contract negotiations may be going on behind the scenes, there won’t be an official announcement until August at least.
