Oscar Gatto sprints to victory in stage 3 of Vuelta a Andalucia

Oscar Gatto (Tinkoff) timed his sprint perfectly to win stage 3 at the Vuelta a Andalucia in Padul. The Italian launched himself from the bunch sprint and crossed the line ahead of Ben Swift (Team Sky) and Raymond Kreder (Roompot-Oranje Peloton).

Cofidis sent Dani Navarro up the road inside of the final 25 kilometers of the 157.9km stage. Dimension Data’s Omar Fraile gave chase and caught the Spaniard with about 10km to go, but their escape was for naught as the peloton caught the duo with less than one kilometer to go.

Tinkoff drove the peloton into the final 500 meters. Though Sky challenged, working for Swift, Gatto would not be denied, collecting the Russian team’s second win of the Spanish tour.

After placing 11th in stage 1, third in stage 2 and second today, Swift has moved into the overall lead with the same time as runner-up Kreder.
