Oleg Tinkov: I’ll come back and win the Tour de France when Froome has gone
Tinkoff team owner Oleg Tinkov is shutting down the team the end of this season but he has vowed to return to the sport in the future and win the Tour de France.
After “a few seasons off I’ll come back with a new big project,” he told Sporza. “I’m going to rest for a few seasons and relax with my family in Russia, but then I’ll come back with new big product.”
Despite not winning a Tour de France title since his Tinkoff project began, Tinkov is happy with what his team has done. “I’m very pleased with our Tour. We had three days in yellow, three stage wins, the polka dot jersey and the green jersey. I could not expect more from my last Tour.”
While it seems that Alberto Contador signed with Trek-Segafredo, Tinkov confirms that Peter Sagan will ride for Bora-Hansgrohe in 2017: “I understand he signed with Bora. I will gladly follow Peter on TV, or over the net, and if I come some time to the race when Peter comes out of the Bora bus, he will not hesitate to take a photo with me.”
“According to my information, Bora paid him even more. I mean, that’s the market,” he said. “I know for definite he got more. I’m not going to disclose the number. But he signed for much more money than I paid him – that’s a fact.”
