Oleg Tinkov: “BMC and Katusha will disappear”

Oleg Tinkov thinks that in addition to his own team and the Swiss IAM Cycling in the near future even more formations will disappear from the peloton.

The flamboyant Russian, who will leave cycling at the end of this season, also named names. “The business model in cycling is wrong. I am sure that BMC and Katusha will close their doors soon” he said in an interview with the Danish TV2.

Tinkov, who says that his team has cost him more than fifty million, believes that the teams which are in the hands of a private sponsor will get into trouble soon. “The sport is in a deep crisis. If ASO does not agree to share with the teams of the TV rights as in Formula 1, it will never change. Then we roll from scandal to scandal, and will continue to fall over more teams. I see the current business model with no future for the sport. “

However, Tinkov doesn’t regret the money he spent in cycling in the last years. “I invested a lot of time and many millions  in cycling, but I have no regrets. I’ve enjoyed it.”
