Niki Terpstra wins Eneco Tour as Boasson Hagen takes the final stage

Niki Terpstra (Etixx – Quick-Step) claimed the overall victory at the Eneco Tour after a rainy last stage as overall leader Rohan Dennis (BMC) crashed on the slippery roads.

Terpstra, who began Sunday’s stage 7 in fifth overall, jumped clear with Dimension Data’s Edvald Boasson Hagen and IAM Cycling’s Oliver Naesen, and the breakers held out over several tough cobbled climbs. Boasson Hagen proved by far the fastest to the finish line in the three-man sprint that closed out the race, earning a few much-needed WorldTour points for Dimension Data.

With the rest of field only just beginning to arrive in small groups 41 seconds after Terpstra hit the line — and Dennis out of the picture — the Dutch former Paris-Roubaix winner emerged as the overall race victor.
