Colombian cyclist dies in Vuelta de la Juventud after high speed crash
22 year-old Colombian cyclist Diego Suta (Iceberg Bike) died Tuesday on the second stage of the Vuelta de la Juventud. The incident happened only a few kilometres into the stage.
“[Suta] lost control of the bike on a curve,” said Major Edwin Perez, commander of the Highway Police of Nariño. “He skidded off the road and crashed against the guardrail, and because of the speed [he] lost his life.”
Perez added that Suta likely died instantly because of the speed of the impact.
“Suta [was] competing in his first Vuelta de la Juventud and it is sad what happened,” said his team’s coach.
