Alberto Contador still has plans for own pro team
Alberto Contador says he is still planning on forming a UCI Continental professional team to support U23 riders in the future. Contador had indicated he was going to setup the team and ride for it in his final year, but a contract with Trek-Segafredo came along in the mean time.
The Alberto Contador Foundation currently runs a U23 development team called rh+/Polartec and the goal was to form a professional team to give those riders the next step in their career.
“The Contador Foundation works to give continuity to our riders and so creating a professional team is the next logical step,” Contador said.
“We have not set a date for this goal. One possibility is to start with a Continental team but the date is still open, although we are already working on it.
“Ultimately the team will be in the image of the Junior and U23 teams, offering the riders guaranteed continuity for several seasons allowing maximum stability for its riders. Hopefully we’ll get there very soon.”
