'The showman' Peter Sagan wins Paris-Roubaix after spectacular attack

The Slovakian Peter Sagan ( Bora-hansgrohe ), 28 years old and three times in a row world champion, won the Paris-Roubaix on Sunday at the velodrome of Roubaix. He forced in a sprint to his escape partner the impressive Swiss champion Silvan Dillier ( Ag2r La Mondiale ), 27 years old.

Niki Terpstra, who won the Tour of Flanders last week and the 2014 edition of Paris-Roubaix, completed the podium.

Silvan Dillier ( AG2R La Mondiale ) was the only one who could follow the wheel of Sagan when the rainbow reached its height. He displayed all his quality in the getaway that emerged towards the 30th kilometer and endured Sagan’s shaking on the pavement until the end.

The first thing Sagan did after celebrating his triumph was to reach out and congratulate Dillier and thank him. They were a great pair since Sagan came to the break, where the Belgian Jelle Wallays ( Lotto Soudal ) still resisted, until the arrival at the velodrome.

“This is amazing,” Sagan said. “I have to say that this year, I was never involved in a crash, I never flat tired, I saved energy and then just did one step forward; I attacked. I kept going until the finish.
