Ghent-Wevelgem live stream 2018
The 80th edition of Ghent-Wevelgem cycling race is live stream on Cycling Today on the 25 of March. Ghent-Wevelgem live stream starts at 14 30 CET.
The Flemish Cycling Week continues with the race that has traditionally been number 3 in the hierarchy of cobblestone runs. Due to its long history Gent-Wevelgem is often considered to be just under Flanders Round and Paris-Roubaix in terms of prestige.
What makes the race so important is its long history. It was first held in 1934 as a junior race and was later opened for independent amateurs before it was made for a race for professionals after World War II.
Big Belgian names such as Rik van Looy, Eddy Merckx, Freddy Maertens and Walter Godefroot were among the former winners, but after Bernard Hinault’s victory in 1977, the winning list continues with names from several nations with a beautiful mix of sprint and classic riders like Greg Van Avermaet, John Degenkolb, Peter Sagan, Tom Boonen, Oscar Freire, Mario Cipollini, Thor Hushovd and Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, who all won in the recent history of the race.
