Fan footage shows jacket over the barriers caused Peter Sagan to crash (video)

Peter Sagan was unable to make it back-to-back Tour of Flanders triumphs, with a sensational solo ride seeing Philippe Gilbert take the win.

A dramatic crash on the final ascent of the Kwaremont brought down the Slovakian. Sagan appeared to clip the advertising hoarding when pushing to catch Gilbert and took Van Avermaet and Oliver Naesen down with him.

In the footage posted on Twitter by Sagan, it appears that a jacket hanging over the barriers gets caught in the World Champion’s handlebars. The Slovak then steers towards the foot of the next barrier before crashing to the cobbles.

Sagan posted the footage saying: “Video that shows my crash at the @RondeVlaanderen was caused by a jacket that caught my left arm. These things happen in races (@Seal_jobs)”
