Daniel Abraham Gebru of the Netherlands came out victorious in the men’s road race C4-5 at the Paralympic games in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday after a very unfortunate crash in the finale took out the two riders contesting the win. Gebru crossed the line moments after the races two leading riders, who were involved in a closely contested run to the line, crashed with less than 25 meters to go.
Jostling in the final meters of the race, an Australian and Ukrainian rider look set to take gold and silver but in a dramatic turn of events the two go crashing to the ground falling meters short from crossing the line. The crash opened up the way for Gebru to take the win ahead of Brazil’s Lauro Cesar Chaman and Italy’s Andrea Tarlao who both finished 38-seconds back from the winner.
