Cyclist killed in Japan by driver playing Pokemon Go

A woman has died in Japan two weeks after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle, local media reported. The driver of the car was reportedly playing Pokemon Go on his smartphone while driving. His phone was running out of battery and as he went to plug in the phone, he took his eyes off the road, hitting the cyclist.

The Japan Times reports that the driver was arrested on suspicion of negligence resulting in injury but was subsequently released. Police are now treating the incident as a case of neglience resulting in death.

This is reportedly the second death due to a motorist playing Pokemon Go while driving. It is believe as many as 79 bicycle and car accidents have been linked to the game in Japan since its release there on July 22.
